Science

Intent

At Norbury, we plan for exciting and meaningful experiences in Science that build on pupil’s natural curiosity.  We want to answer some of the big questions children have about the world around them.

Our teaching in Science should enable all pupils to:

  • Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
  • Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
  • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

We want children to understand the importance and impact of Scientific study and to develop a lifelong respect for, and interest in, the subject.  We have thought carefully about the Scientists that children will study and the texts that they will use, to ensure that they reflect the diverse world of which we are a part.

The document below shows the core learning for children in Science in each year group at Norbury.  The document also includes key texts that will support learning.
