We’re carrying on our stories today lovely Kingfishers, you have been sending some fabulous chapters on Class Dojo, I am so impressed with your creativity, they really are a pleasure to read! You can finish them during the holidays if you want to or finish them today if you prefer.
As our final lesson on time we are going to practice telling the time from a stopwatch. So get yours out and make your family do some crazy things so you can time them!
Hopefully these two video’s will show you how to make a paper aeroplane! I had to trim the video in half to get it to upload but hopefully I’ve cracked it!
In my video I mentioned a website with many paper aeroplane designs to have a go at.
I can’t wait to see what you create!
Have a wonderful day and a sensational holiday!

I have really enjoyed reading the beginnings of your stories today! There have been some fantastic ones! Keep going with your story today and don’t forget to read what you have already written.
We’re measuring time in seconds today!
Bluebells, Daffodils and Tulips – This is an activity around estimating how many seconds it will take to do something.
If you would like a further challenge have a go at the we’re converting minutes to seconds!
Mrs Sowter has been thinking about acts of kindness.
Have a wonderful day filled with kindness!

Tuesday 19th May 2020
Goodmorning Kingfishers, for your literacy this week we are going to write a story. You can choose between these different options for your story. They get harder as you go down the page.
A. Retell George’s Marvellous Medicine in your own words.
B. Write an alternative version of George’s Marvellous Medicine with your self as the main character. How would this change the story?
C. Write an alternative version of the story where you change one things about the story. I would love it if your story was set somewhere different, maybe in your story The main characters parents own a zoo. You could change the character of Grandma to be a grizzly old Grandad or a terrifying aunty! You could change the effect that the medicine has on the animals. You could change the ending and have George make more of his medicine.
D. Write a sequel to George’s Marvellous Medicine (George’s Marvellous Medicine 2!). You will need to think carefully about what you want to happen next, does George manage to replicate the medicine? Does George open a factory and sell all 4 different types of potion and become rich and famous. Remember your story will still need: an introduction, a build-up, a problem and a resolution.
Fill in this Story Planner to help you with your writing tomorrow.
Here is a plan that I have done to show you what it might look like.
Please do your Big Maths online for me. We have been experiencing some user difficulties because in the ‘Learn it’s’ test the timer goes quite fast and we aren’t quite that fast as timing. In school we have been having much more success if an adult types in the answers. So just on this test I would ask that you get an adult or other expert typist (teenagers tend to be excellent at typing!) to give you a hand.

This Afternoon’s activity is a bit of a random one, a bit of science, a bit of maths and a bit of art.
Yesterday I was watching a spider making a web in the garden and I thought how beautiful it was. I was amazed at how much silk it could make in it’s tiny little body and how it managed to reel it back in when it decided it had gone wrong.
So I decided to do some research into how they make their webs.
This video shows how a spider creates their web.
This video shows the pattern that they make.
And this is a video of how they connect their web together! It’s fascinating!
This video from 27 seconds to 1 minute and 10 seconds quickly tells us how a spider makes its web.
Now, have a go at making your own spiders web design. You could draw a spiders web using your ruler.
Sew one on cardboard, paper or material
or weave one with sticks and wool.
Have fun, I can’t wait to see what you all make!

Literacy – New Spellings for you my darlings.
This morning we’re looking at finding the amount of time in between two times. We call this the duration of time and it tells us how long an event or activity lasts for.
This is one way that you can find the duration if you find it tricky.
* in this activity we are finding the amount of time it takes for different children to walk to school.
** This a slightly harder activity, finding the amount of time it takes for different activities. You can use the blank clocks if you want to colour in the amount of time that has passed on the clock.
*** This is the hardest worksheet and it involves digit clocks as well as analogue clocks. Only have a go at this sheet if you are feeling nice and confident about finding the duration of time! You can also use the blank clocks to help you.
The wonder of flight
Explore this website which explains how wings work and has a video of how aeroplane wings are made!
In your book draw your own diagram to demonstrate how the four forces work to keep an aeroplane up in the sky.
Have a lovely day!

Kingfishers we have reached the end of George’s Marvellous Medicine! Here are some questions for the final chapter! George comp Sum Wk 4 Day 5
Next week we are going to have a go at a longer piece of writing based on the story so if you are behind please can you try and finish off the story with your mummy or daddy. You don’t need to answer all the questions, especially not in writing but please try to have read up to the final chapter before Tuesday. You can read to your parents or listen to them read it to you.
Daffodils and Bluebells we’re going to look at digital and analogue clocks.
Tulips we are going to look at 24 hour clocks!
Today for our art we are going to draw something that is really important to us in nature. They help us to breathe good clean air and they are constantly changing.
It’s a tree!
Option A. Grab a sketch book and some pencils and get outside and draw a picture of a tree in your garden or nearby.
Option B. https://youtu.be/gExU54kVM0o Watch this video which will talk you through how to draw a tree step by step!
The Starling Class have inspired me to have a look at trees in different seasons. Have a look at this time lapse video to see a whole year in two minutes.
Imagine what your tree would look like (maybe you can even remember!) and draw your tree in one or more of the other seasons!

Yesterday you made some fantastic adverts for your favourite games, chocolate bars and toys.
Today please can you have a go at making an advert for one of George’s Marvellous Medicines. You can pick which ever one you like, remember to use bright colours to draw peoples attention. Interesting shapes also help to catch peoples eye and say positive things about the product. (maybe we shouldn’t mention that it sets your tummy on fire and smoke comes out of your nose!)
Hello my lovelies, how are we getting on with our work on time? Is it too easy, too hard? It’s so hard to know when I can’t work with you!
Tulips this is for you
Bluebells and Daffodils we’re going to carry on from our work on Hours and Days work from yesterday.
Please let me know how you’re getting on, can you do it on your own or do you need lots of help from a grownup?
This afternoon we are going to learn about Florence Nightingale. Mrs Sowter has a really fun activity planned for us and I can’t wait to see your designs.
Have a Fabulous day! Missing you all lots!
Wednesday 12th May 2020
Today we are going to write adverts for our favourite toys, sweets, video games or what ever you choose. Tomorrow we are going to use these skills to help us write an advert for one of George’s Marvellous medicines.
Here is a presentation for everyone to look at about time.
Bluebells and Daffodils
Topic – History!
Trudy asked who Amelia Earhart was and she was an important person in the history of transport and especially flight!
Good morning my darlings!
We are very close to the end of our book! Today we’re going to read about Medicine number three and four!
For Maths we are all going to look at telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
Bluebells and Daffodils
Today we’re going to learn the words for some of our family members in Spanish!
Is there anything you would like to learn in Spanish?
Have a good day! Stay safe.

It was so lovely to see lots of you yesterday! If you didn’t manage to get on for the zoom and would like to see it send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send you the link! For safeguarding reasons please don’t send it on to anyone else.
We’re going to look at more spelling patterns for adding ing, ed and er, this time on words that end with an e.
Mrs Wright and FONSA have signed us up for the White Rose resources to help us with our maths which is quite exciting!
Please let me know what you think!
Bluebells and Daffodils we’re recapping telling the time to the hour and the half hour. Hopefully we will already know how to do this and it will be a good way of getting back into telling the time!
Tulips we’re thinking about amounts of time months and years specifically
P.S.H.E and citizenship
Have a wonderful bank holiday celebrating VE day and enjoy your weekend. The weather is supposed to be fabulous!

Here are the questions for the next chapter of George for your enjoyment!
In Maths we’re starting to think about time. I use the ’30 days of September’ to help me to remember how many days there are in each month and we are going to learn it today.
See you all at 2:00 for our chat with Captain Georgia Rought-Whitta of the Royal Army Air Corps
Time: May 6, 2020 01:55 PM London
Can’t wait to see you all!

From marking your work from Friday I found that a lot of us had forgotten what verbs are, how to use them and how to change the spelling of them by adding a suffix.
There are three levels for you to choose from.
* Learn what verbs are and start to change them by adding ing
** Learning what verbs are and how to put them into the past and present tense. Adding suffixes ed, ing and er
*** Hardest – spelling patters doubling consonants when adding suffixes.
I hope you have all been remembering to check the temperature each morning and afternoon as today we are going to have a look at the data that we collected!
We have previously learnt how to say the names of different animals in Spanish and to Say different colours in Spanish. Today we’re going to put these skills together by describing the colours of animals!
Have a wonderful day!

Monday 4th May 2020
On Wednesday a friend of Freddie’s who works for the RAF has agreed to talk to us about the planes and helicopters that she flies for her job. It sounds like it’s going to be a really interesting opportunity so we’re going to chat to her on zoom at 2pm on Wednesday. I will do my best to record the chat so if you can’t make it then you will be able to watch afterwards but you won’t be able to ask questions if you watch afterwards!
Our spellings for this week 🙂
I hope you have fun with this potions activity, make sure to go out into the garden and make some messy potions of your own!
Hope you’re all doing well.

Friday 1st May 2020
Please will you let me know how much support is needed if any with these Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar mats so that I can plan accordingly if we all have similar gaps!
This afternoon for our topic work we are going to learn about an African Artist who paints birds. The powerpoint has information about her, lots of her paintings and an activity to do at the end.
I hope you have a lovely day and a lovely weekend.

I loved your simile’s yesterday! Thank you!
The next Chapter of George’s Marvellous medicine is quite short so I have put it together with the following chapter.
Following on from yesterday when we experimented with our containers we are going to mark the amounts on measuring jugs. This worksheet has different levels, please choose the one that is most suitable for you.
* = easiest
*** = hardest
Here is your task from Mrs Sowter!
I love it, and I might have to make some myself!
Have fun xxx
Wednesday 29th April 2020
In literacy we are going to recap using similes in our writing.
A simile describes something by comparing it to some thing else e.g. as fast a cheetah or as enormous as an elephant. So we’re going to use our spelling words to describe the animals on George’s farm!
How have we all got on with measuring the temperature! I have been enjoying seeing your charts that show how hot it is at your house though the weather certainly has got a lot colder!
This morning we are going to move on to measuring liquids, we sometimes call this capacity, which is how much space there is inside something or how much space something is taking up! We use the unit of litres (millilitres and centilitres) to measure liquids along with other units like pints and gallons.
Lots of you asked about the History of planes and who invented the first aeroplane so today we are going to learn about the Wright Brothers.
Have a wonderful day,
Miss B x
Tuesday 28th April 2020
Morning Kingfishers, thank you for all the hard work you have been doing, I love seeing it when you upload it to class dojo. It’s great to see how hard you are all working even when we can’t be together in school. I hope you’re all staying happy and safe and enjoying the lovely weather by getting outside lots!
Don’t forget to check the temperature today and record it on your chart.
Please can you have a quick practice of what we have already learnt in our Spanish lessons.
Numbers 1 – 20 (or 10 if you are still practising this important step! Please don’t feel you need to move on until this is secure.)
This week we’re going to learn the names of animal because they are very important to us in our class.
First have a look at the flashcards which will tell you the names of the animals in Spanish with a picture.
Then you could play these games to practise.
There is a sheet in your pack to use or you can do this worksheet here
Monday 27th April 2020
Here is a reminder of last week’s spellings for a little test this week. Please reward as you see fit or send me a message to add a dojo point!
This week we are thinking about the size of the animals now that they have had George’s Marvellous Medicine! Do you notice any similarities between the words?
Daffodils, Tulips and Bluebells
This week we are going to keep a record of the temperature each morning and each afternoon somewhere in your house or your garden.
Friday 24th April 2020
and here is an R.E. task from Mrs Sowter!

Thursday 23rd April 2020
We’re diving into the next chapter, The Brown Hen, a curious title. What do you think it might be about?
I recorded my self reading the chapter in case you wanted to listen to it while you follow along.
Well done for all your super work on reading scales for measuring length, we are moving onto reading scales for temperature. Can you remember the unit we use to measure temperature?
Topic – The science of Hot Air Balloons!
Lots of you asked how Hot Air Balloons fly.
Air expands (gets bigger) as it gets warmer so that means that the air in the hot air balloon is lighter than the air outside of it. This means that the balloon floats upwards.
I really enjoyed doing this experiment to make an easy version of a hot air balloon!
There is a video to show you how to do it and then underneath it explains a little more of the science behind it.
And here is an interesting video about how to fly real hot air balloons.
Here is a video of my toaster balloon! Please make sure you have an adult to help you because the toaster can get very hot!

Wednesday 22nd April 2020
This morning we are going to think about describing the character of Grandma in our story. Please use the work below to help you.
In Maths we are going to be solving problems using our measuring distance skills.
Today we will learn Los colores in Spanish!
A fun game for learning the colours in Spanish which is really handy for learning the correct pronuciation, what they sound like.
And in your packs there is a sheet about colours or you can do this worksheet or maybe you could draw a beautiful rainbow to display in your window and label the colours in Spanish!
Tuesday 21st April 2020
Hello my lovelies, I am really excited about the next chapter of our story, so here are some questions for you,
Today we’re going to be using our new found measuring skills to measure the perimeter of shapes. Here is a presentation to help you.
Bluebells and Daffodils, if you don’t think that your child is ready for this then they can continue measuring and estimating with this activity.
This term our topic is Flight which we are really excited about.
This could be learning about aeroplanes, hot air balloons, learning to make paper aeroplanes, Amelia Earhart and The Wright Brothers who were famous people in the History of Flight, making kites, how birds fly and lots more things.
Please can you draw a picture or make a spider diagram to show me what you already know about flight and what you would like to learn about flight! I have already been asked if we can make a kite which I am really excited about! 😀
Please make sure you share this with me so I can plan all the best things!
Click for an example knowledge audit 🙂
William, Alfie, Callum, Elliott, Sophie and Tom
These are your child’s new spellings. Please practise throughout the week and test them the following Monday 27.4.20
Spellings using the grapheme a-e
Good Morning my beautiful Kingfishers!
Have you all had a lovely break! I would love to hear about what you have been up to!
Year 3 I sent you a message on class dojo about our rocks science lesson! Check it out at 10:30am!
I am so sorry everyone! I forgot to upload your spelling lists at the end of last term! Hopefully you have had a nice break from them an are ready to learn some spellings again. I will upload a list of 12 spellings. If your child usually has different spellings from their work with Mrs Sowter then I have asked her to send you these through on Classdojo.
Please read through all the spellings with your child and talk about what the words mean if they are unsure. This is our time when we talk about vocabulary and maybe learn some new words!
Your child should know how many spellings they learn each week but if anyone can’t remember please get in contact with me and I will have a good guess! (all of my paperwork is at school!) Please feel free to use your best judgement on this.
The following Monday I will ask you to test your child, as a reward if they get them all right you can send me a message and I will give them a dojo point or give them 10 minutes of extra playtime, time on the Ipad or a sneaky sweetie if you prefer! Whatever you feel works best for you!
So this week’s spellings are all for our writing on Georges Marvellous medicine.
Good Luck! If you would like to extend this then please practice using these words in sentences to imbed their meaning. Decide on the sentence with your child and then help them to remember it while they write it down making sure to spell their spelling word correctly.
For Maths today we are going to start thinking about a different sort of measuring! Length. Have a chat to your grown up about what length means then have a look at the powerpoint!
And here are your activities.
Year 2 Science (Year 3, I sent you a message on ClassDojo about yours!)
Hope you have a wonderful first day back to home schooling!
I hope you are safe and well and planning a fabulous and fun Easter Holidays at home in your gardens. Max built me a frame for my Aerial hoop in the garden yesterday so I know what I will be doing this holiday!

It’s the last day of term everyone and the last day of our Africa topic!
For Literacy this morning we are going to read the next 2 chapters of George’s Marvellous Medicine (the first one is very short) we’re left with a bit of a cliffhanger so I apologise for the suspense guys!
For Maths I would like you to have another go at your Big Maths Beat That!
If you can access on the computer then

Morning! Today we are going to combine (put together) our maths and our literacy work. We are going to write the ingredients list for our own marvellous medicine. First try these starters to get your brain going!
I have recorded a video for you about our task today and I will try again to attach it soon.
Here is a paper version of your task if you’re getting to it early!
Mrs Sowter would like you to read the Easter Story. You can read a version of it here.
Then she would like you to go outside and make an Easter garden. On the following attachment you will find examples. They are quite beautiful and I can’t wait to see yours! (please don’t feel you have to print the page, it is just for inspiration.)
Hope you have a lovely day!

¡Buenos días Kingfishers!
Wednesday 1st of April 2020 (oooh April fools day, what tricks are you getting up to this morning? Keep it safe and keep it kind! )
This morning we’re moving on to the next chapter of George’s Marv Meds as I am calling it for short!
Here are your brain warming up activities!
¡Buenas tardes Kingfishers!
Some of you might want to recap the numbers 1 – 10 so here is the video from last week where you can repeat after each number. This might also be a good reminder if you want to move on to the numbers all the way to 20.
Here is a slightly bonkers video which teaches up right the way up to 20.
Don’t forget you have your game in your pack to practice. Maybe you could play it during the week to keep practicing!
Chapter 10 of Danny the Champion of the world (in 2 parts). I hope it works!
Tuesday 31st of March (Day 9)
For literacy we are thinking about commas. Daffodils and Bluebells I would like you to think about using commas to separate items in a list, Tulips I would like you to think about other uses for commas. They are one of the trickier types of punctuation because they have lots of different meanings. Check out this powerpoint to explain.
Here are you starter activities to get your brains moving.
You’ll need to work through these challenges with a grown-up today Kingfishers, they are all using your knowledge about mass and reading scales. Good Luck and let me know how you get on!
This afternoon we are going to create our own avatar.
An avatar is a picture that we use to represent us on the internet. This is so that we can keep ourselves safe while we are online by not sharing too much personal data like pictures of ourselves.
You can create an avatar to look any way you like. Some people like their avatar to look like themselves whilst some prefer to change everything about themselves and make their avatar blue with snakes for hair instead so the choice is up to you.
You could: draw your avatar on paper, use an app, (I used an app called ‘bitmoji’ to create my avatar) or use a website (this is an example of one I found which was easy to use https://www.kartunix.com/simpleac )
Happy Creating, can’t wait to see all of your avatars!
Monday 30th March 2020 (Day 8)
Good morning Kingfishers as we start week 2 of home learning.
This morning we are moving onto chapter 3 of our story and below there are some questions for you to think about as you read! I’m really enjoying reading this story as I haven’t read it since I was a child (which seems like a loooong time ago!) Are you enjoying it so far?
This Afternoon I will post a video (or it might have to be two) of myself reading the next chapter of ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ another of Roald Dahl’s stories which you started reading with Miss Illsley and lots of you really wanted to finish.
Today we are practicing reading scales . This skill comes in handy for lots of different types of
Video for Tulip table to follow; teaching you how to calculate the intervals on the scale.
Bluebells and Daffodils
Year 2’s next lessons this time focussing on humans.
Year 3’s next lessons on Rocks.
If you have any rocks, that you can study and group then that would be a fabulous activity but I am conscious that not many people would have that as a resource!
Hope you had a fabulous weekend my lovelies!
Friday 27th March 2020 (Day 5)
I’m going into school today to look after the children of Key Workers so Miss Illsley will be keeping track of our Class Dojo account!
This morning for literacy we’re going to be thinking about that lovely rhyming paragraph at the end of Chapter 2! Click below to see what you need to do!
This Morning for Maths we are continuing with our measuring mass quest in the best way! So put on your aprons, get out those scales and let’s do some cooking! Share what you’ve made and how much you needed of all the different ingredients on Class Dojo, I think I’m going to be feeling rather jealous and rather peckish!
In the afternoon we’re going to do some art!
I have chosen the artist Anthony Goldsworthy as our inspiration so have a look at this PowerPoint to learn about him and lets get creative!
Hope you’re all ok and keeping safe!
Thursday 26th March (Day 4 of Isolation!)
Good Afternoon Kingfishers, it is gloriously sunny outside so I hope you’re getting out there and enjoying it!
Thank you for posting your wonderful work up on your portfolios! I’ve have really enjoyed looking at it all, posting my little comments for you and rewarding you with those dojo points! Please keep on posting them up for me to see!
Today a plumber has arrived at my house because my bathroom has become an emergency situation so it has been tooo noisy to film any videos. I’ll hopefully be back with you tomorrow!
Today we are practicing writing expanded noun phrases. Take a look at the word document below for a reminder and to learn about your task.
In maths we are going to begin thinking about measuring mass (weighing) because tomorrow or over the weekend I will be asking you to do some practical weighing for the best reason! Cooking!
So, today have a look at this worksheet to remind you about reading scales and the units we use to measure mass.
This afternoon’s task comes from Mrs Sowter, she’s missing you all greatly and is enjoying seeing what you’re getting up to on Class Dojo.
She has organised some work on our R.E topic which is looking at the Christian celebrations at this time of year. So today’s lesson is all about Lent.
I hope your having a fabulous time and staying safe!
Miss B and Mrs Sowter
Wednesday 25th March (Day 3)
Today I received a parcel, it was a big box of crickets, locusts, worms and grubs for Spikey to have for his dinner.
I thought as I don’t know how long the pet shops will be open for, I best stock up on disgusting crawly treats for our friendly neighbourhood hedgehog. He misses you all and can’t wait to see you soon (with just the one eye!)
This morning we are going to read chapter 2 of George’s Marvellous Medicine, are you itching to know what will happen next? I know I am! When you have read it have a think about these questions. Comprehension Questions Day 3
Tomorrow we will be looking at Expanded noun phrases. Can you remember what they are?
In Maths this morning I have a little challenge for you. It involves odd and even numbers.
Have a go first but if you get stuck here is a video which will help you.
Buenos tardes Kingfishers!
This afternoon I would like you to learn some Spanish!
This is a song which shows you how to count from 1 – 10 and back down again. There are others on youtube if you prefer but this one is good because you can repeat each line after the man on the video. I don’t know about you, but I always remember things much better when they have a catchy tune!
After you have listened to the song and had a go at repeating the numbers back there is a game for you to play in your pack. Just concentrate on the numbers 1 – 10 this week and we will add onto that next week and go to 20!
Tuesday 24th March (Day 2)
Hi! Some of you have requested I upload activities the night before to allow you to prepare for the next day so here it is! Monday’s activities are still underneath if you haven’t got round to them yet!
In Literacy I would like you to think about punctuation. We have learnt lots about punctuation in the past but this PowerPoint should recap what you know.
Here are the tasks for you to do!
For our counting practice today I would like you to count to 30 in 2’s and back down to 0 zero again!
For our ‘learn its’ practice today I would like you to say a times table of your choice out loud. Do you know any of the division facts to go with it?
In ‘it’s nothing new’ today we will be adding. So, remember that we start by putting the bigger number in our head and then count on the smaller number.
Try these easy questions, maybe you even know them as learn its! Answer them on your whiteboard.
5 + 6 =
12 + 4 =
7 + 5 =
Today in calculation we ae going to be adding 3 numbers together. Here is a very quick video explaining how we do this!
And here is the activity I would like you to do.
ICT – coding
So you’ll have to let me know how this goes…
If you are in year 3 you will have done some coding with me last year but if you are in year 2 this will be new to you!
Today we are going to use a website https://hourofcode.com/uk/learn to learn the basics of coding and code our very own game.
Bluebells and Daffodils can choose:
Puppy Adventure https://www.tynker.com/hour-of-code/puppy-adventure
Snoopy’s Snow Brawl https://hourofcode.com/codesnoopy
Code Monkey https://hourofcode.com/codemonkeyjr
Tulips can choose:
Flappy Bird https://hourofcode.com/flap
Star Wars https://hourofcode.com/star-wars
Each one will show you videos and walk you through the steps of how to write code to make a game this might take up to an hour to complete but you can have breaks in between levels. If you want to leave it and come back to it another day then you need to remember which level you got up to!
Good Luck and don’t forget you can contact me if you get stuck and I will try my best to help!
